Okay, so this song starts playing on my smart speaker. Within the first few notes, I’m like, “Oh cool, Take Five.” But then the melody changes a bit, and I’m like, “Oh wait, this isn’t Take Five. What are the chances that there are two jazz saxophone songs in 5/4 with the same first bar? Odd but cool coincidence.”
Then I ask Alexa for the name of the song and find this. TAKE TEN! It’s like a sequel to one of the best jazz standards of the past half century! Similar enough to pay tribute but different enough to be a completely different song!
Freaking BRILLIANT! And I’m assuming this one is in 10/8 instead of 5/4.
