Supergran... OK... when this came on the air, I was just a bit too old to be watching such shows. But I still saw it occasionally because my sisters liked it - and I have fond memories of it. I loved the theme tune because it sounded cool. And today, I love it because it's so suggestive. These are lyrics that would never be tolerated in a childrens' TV series today.
This clip features the two versions of the song. And I swear to you that both versions featured in the TV series. Although, when you hear Scunner Campbell's spoken line, you probably won't believe it. And I'd be astonished if I ever heard the word "fairies" used in this context in a childrens' theme song these days. Still... I can't help wishing there was a line about her bitch-slapping Mel Gibson as well.
Oh... and "big girl's blouse" is an insulting term applied to anyone who seems weak or effete in Scotland.
