I Love Doo-wop

"Lover Boy" - Toodlum Barker & Emil Lomax

Don't know much about this song.

It's apparently been played on a few TV series that I've never seen and was used in a trailer for a video game (never played). I happened to catch a brief snippet of the tune on an Investigation Discovery program and went looking for it. Took some effort as I didn't know the song title, songwriter(s), or performers.

What I do know is that "Lover Boy" is a lovely doo-wop style song and it should appeal to anyone who is a fan of the genre.

Brings to mind the time, a bunch of us were drinking and began challenging each other who knew the most about doo wop. i thought i would win easily but there were a couple of other guys who had some expertise. We'd each ask a question trying to stump the next guy. i easily got "who was the female member of the Platters?) (Zola Taylor) "Who was the first lead singer of Billy Ward and the Dominoes?" (It wasn't Billy Ward)
i was getting somewhat inebriated and mind was getting cloudy but the final challenge question was put: "Who was the arranger for the Cadillacs" i struggled but just as i was about to admit failure, i saw in my mind's eye the label ofmone of their records and shouted out: "Esther Navarro"
[She also stole the melody and somewhat changed the lyrics and claimed composition credit for "Gloria", the doo wop test song par exellence]

@laotzu92 Thanks for sharing your story. It's interesting and I actually learned something from it. Always a good thing. 👍

@Rutterman The lead singer was Clyde McPhatter (before the Drifters).
