I'm loving her memoir, and hence I learned about her band's debut, before her solo career. Wasn't easy being her unique self, and she played piano in a bar in DC where she heard higher ups talking. When frustrated, one thing she said she did was throw watermelons at the wall!! She knew 1,000 songs in the mid 80s in her bar playing days.
