“Downtown” – Mrs. Miller

As long as we’re inviting deceased and / or questionably talented musical artists (e.g., the half dead Milli Vanilli) to perform at the National Mall this summer, I’d like to propose the singer, Mrs. Miller (1907 – 1997), for consideration.
The unforgettable Mrs. Miller was sort of a 1960s version of William Hung. She recorded albums for Capitol Records, made numerous guest appearances on TV talk and variety shows, and appeared at the Hollywood Bowl. Mrs. Miller also performed for American soldiers in Vietnam. She even performed a song in the 1967 film, The Cool Ones.
The recordings I’ve heard by Mrs. Miller are memorable, but I’m partial to her unique rendition of the Petula Clark song, “Downtown”. One listener commenting on YouTube was so affected by her performance, they said, “I'll never go downtown again, after hearing this.” That was my reaction too.
