Oh I hate this because I didn't like them back then. They both got on the charts playing others music and to me the stones had a better sound and grove but the mop heads became more original. So to the general public they win

@Gibbon thus a good debate. I believe the Beatles first chart hit was Love Me Do which they wrote. But yeah as they gained a following it was mostly playing others hits.

@Gibbon I know many that agree with you. The Stones definitely had a harder raw edge. They were more rock n roll. But the Beatles could write songs.
