I'm Mostly An 80's Child...

Originally posted in 2022.

...musically, having grown up under the watchful banner of ABBA and Blondie...and then....The Human League came along.

I wore out my vinyl copy of 'Dare' and believe I even brought it on tape before finally getting a CD when that was released. Back in 81, when I was around 7, there were no CD's even invented..let alone streaming!

Then...along comes '83 and Madonna...and I had finally found my soulmate music. Natch, there might have been a tiny bit of a crush on her too, but it was her music and her youthfulness and sheer energy that got me..

Of course, there was Yazoo, Duran Duran and Depeche Mode during the time too...before Tiffany and Debbie Gibson, then the Spice Girls, came along but I've always been a big fan of Madge...

I think I've seen every tour, more or less, since 1990. Granted, that was probably her peak, but she still puts on a great show and writes some really good music.

My partner, she's more the rock, country and blues type - anything with guitars - but her daughter loves The Spice Girls. We all went on their reunion tour a few years back and they didn't disappoint.

Our own daughter, although only 7 (she's 11 now), loves more complicated music - Steve Vai and Frank Zappa - so it's a real mish-mash of styles, but I try to get some me time with my music too.

Lady Ga Ga? Love her. Likewise Taylor...and I'm getting to like Miranda Lambert too..

But give me Madge and The Human League and I'll be happy for days..

Some great bands/artists there! I've always been a big fan of Blondie, love Depeche Mode and Yazoo. I have a ticket to see The Human League at a local castle in the summer, looking forward to that. Also got a ticket for Richard Ashcroft and getting one for Paul Weller, it's costing me a fortune!
The 80s and 90s were great decades for music, there doesn't seem to be any proper music around now that's not either covers or a blatant copy of someone else.

@RodneyTrotter1 Agreed! With the exception of Lady Ga Ga, there's nothing new that really floats my boat...and she started out, around 18 years ago now? That about right.

@KarenDuponteDurose1 Has to be at least 18 years, it's scary how the time is flying by!
