For all we know.

There were two versions of this song around when I was still in school.

I remember hearing the Shirley Bassey version first, Carpenters a bit later. Lovely song, both excellent versions.

@HarryHawk I think I heard the Carpenters' version first. I heard Shirley Bassey's version more often.

@MissBarbara apparently they were in the charts at the same time. Happy memories!

@HarryHawk It wasn't unknown for two versions of a song to be hits around the same time. I remember two versions of "Amazing Grace", an instumental version by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (played on bagpipes) and a vocal version by Judy Collins.

@MissBarbara I remember those too. I think there were also two versions of 'Blame it on the Boogie', one by the Jacksons and the other by the chap who wrote it, Mick Jackson (no relation)
MissBarbara · 70-79
@HarryHawk I remember the Jacksons one, Michael Jackson sang lead on it. I never cared much for him. I don't remember the unrelated Mick Jackson.

@MissBarbara I wasn't a fan either. I think the Jacksons got all the publicity, even though Mick wrote it.
MissBarbara · 70-79
@HarryHawk Was Mick's version a hit?
HarryHawk · 61-69, M
@MissBarbara it got to number 15 in the UK chart
MissBarbara · 70-79
@HarryHawk I don't remember hearing it at the time. I do remember hearing the Jacksons' version.
HarryHawk · 61-69, M
@MissBarbara no, I don't remember it at the time.
