New Order. Old order.

New Order has no Ian Curtis; hence, the name. They are very good musicians, but where is the depth? The weight? They went from punk to post-punk to pop and Hacienda dance tunes. I like dance tunes, but New Order dance tunes? I struggle to listen to Peter Hook, Bernard Sumner, and Stephen Morris without Ian Curtis. Although, it can be a struggle to listen to most music after immersing yourself in metal. Joy Division is minimalist punk, and the exception. It will for ever be my favorite band, Ian Curtis for ever my favorite songwriter and vocalist.

I loved how they wrote very synth pop with emotions and depth, personally. If I were them after their loss, and how they loss Ian Curtis I think it was a personal choice of theirs to write that way. Would you want to write in a way that reminded you of that kind of loss? But maybe's that me.

Some of their stuff was more synthpop type stuff. But I'd recommend looking the later stuff like Get Ready. That was more a return to their roots.
