So many choices!

I like music from the 1930s to the present plus classical. I've seen so many comments on YouTube about how a certain generation's music was the best, but there are some really excellent artists out there today as well, at least I think so. It actually gets to the point where I wind up not listening to anything because I don't know what I feel like. At other times, I wear a song out. Also, as I get older, there are some songs I hear again, and I am like "What was I thinking!" I am of the opinion that good music stays good, but I guess things do change with age.
On a bit of a side note, I found it very interesting that Robert Plant says this is one of the best songs ever recorded[media=https://youtu.be/4uJ90GgUrxQ]
(it's an old favorite of mine). Uh, I did read that online though...so if it seems far-fetched, well.

Most of the claims of "the best" genres / artistes / eras boil down to the fan's own tastes, not any sort of objective judge of quality.

They might enjoy something that might be popular but is either artistically empty and lacking in originality and ability, or on the highest technical, creative and emotional levels.

There will always be excellent composers and performers, but there will also be many who are poor and soon vanish back into ordinary life, and this has always been so.
