Thinking Of You, Bradford, After Your Away Fixture!
No, not a match with Bradford Football Club ("The Bantams") but the Bantam Of The Opera Choir!
This is a choir of Bradford fans, amateur singers aged literally from 19 to 90, but singing to professional standard, and its name playing on the Club mascot and the Andrew Lloyd Webber operetta, Phantom Of The Opera. It has formed in partnership with BBC Radio Leeds, so the Radio Times tells us, and part of Bradford being this year's UK Capital of Culture.
For this evening we heard them accompanied by the BBC Singers and BBC Concert Orchestra (conductor Owain Park), performing The Music Of The Night from that musical, in Friday Night Is Music Night, on BBC Radio Three.
The show is always recorded live, and this was at the Milton Court Concert Hall in the Barbican, London, in May this year. Compere Georgia Mann informed us this was the fortieth anniversary of the dreadful fire at the Bradford FC ground, in which 56 died and over 200 were injured.
