SotD: Blink-182 - 6/8

California (the album) didn't do much for me, even with Skiba in the band, but California Deluxe did. Somehow all the good stuff ended up as B-sides. It was nice to hear them experiment, get outside of the 4/4 time signature for once in their career. At any rate, 6/8 was my fav track from the record and the first/only song I bothered to learn on guitar from California. I suppose there's still time to learn Built This Pool.

Now I’m curious to hear your thoughts on nine.

@Spidergrrr I did not like Nine at all, honestly. I agree with you overall about California, though - it wasn’t a bad record per se, but it was trying to be TOYPAJ/Enema at times. The Deluxe edition really shone though, with tracks like 6/8 and Parking Lot.

@LoseAsDirected Nine i have a mixed emotions about. There are some songs i really enjoy.Like No Heart to Speak of.Skiba rips through that song with such emotion and power.I also really enjoy the back half of Ransom, plus Pin the Grenade is really fun song. But then you have songs like Blame it on My Youth and Happy Days that go way to poppy.Lyrically Nine is very dark but it feel like it's trapped in identity.Whether it wants to be slick poppy record or does it want that edge that deluxe edition had.

@Spidergrrr totally fair. I wasn’t a fan of the overall production, personally, but maybe it’s time I give it another try. I’ll listen to it tomorrow during work and see if my opinion has changed.
