My Favourite 90's Albums.

In no particular order. Thanks to the wife - @SammyJo - and her lists of music, here's 10 of the albums that I enjoy from the 1990's.

Alanis Morrissette - ‘Jagged Little Pill’ (1995)

Female angst? You bet! Great collection of songs. Not a complete classic, there’s a few too many on here, but a wonderful listen all the same. Heartfelt, poetic, emotional and some great performances. The nearest, really, I get to ‘rock’!

Mariah Carey - ‘Music Box’ (1993)

I know, apart from the Xmas song, Mariah can be an acquired taste for some, but I really like her! It’s got ‘Hero’ and ‘Dreamlover’ as the big songs.

Madonna - ‘Ray Of Light’ (1998)

Sure, it’s Madonna and we should know by now that she’s the big favourite of mine, but more to the point, this truly is a classic album. Wonderfully produced. Great performances. Great songs. A constant companion in my life.

I have banged on about it before but ‘Drowned World/Substitute For Love’, ‘Swim’ and ‘Ray Of Light’ have to be THE very best 3 song intro to an album.

The Spice Girls - ‘Spice’ (1996)

My step daughter would - and still does - play this album a lot, so i heard it from when she was growing up. To be fair, it’s a great set of songs on quite a short album. I’m not even going to mention any song titles because...well...what’s the point? If you have heard of them you’ll know the songs...and if you haven’t heard of them...well, you’ll still know the songs!

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers - ‘Blood Sugar Sex Majik’ (1991)

Their masterpiece? I think so. Some of their albums have a little too much filler on them. But not this. Cool dance, funky, alternative feel to all of these tracks. ‘Power Of Equality’ up to ‘They’re Red Hot’. Great tunes. Big singles too.

Shakespeare’s Sister - ‘Hormonally Yours’ (1992)

Really cool. Has ‘Stay’ on this, which was No 1 in the UK for, like, a billion years! The other tracks are really good too.

Shania Twain - ‘Come On Over’ (1997)

Wonderful songs and fantastic arrangements on this here album. From, of course, Mr ‘Mutt’ Lange, so it piqued my wife’s interest (a la the connection with Def Leppard, her favourite band). It song millions and has wall to wall classics - ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman’, ‘Love Gets Me Every Time’, ‘Don’t Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)’, ‘You’re Still The One’ and ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ were all the big hits. Pretty the Country version of MJ’s ‘Thriller’ album in that respect.

Cyndi Lauper - ‘Hat Full Of Stars’ (1993)

Cyndi narrowly missed out on the 80’s list - ‘She Bop’ is the business! - so this will make up for that, I hope! Great tunes. Wonderful production and, both ‘Sally’s Pigeon’s’ and ‘A Hat Full Of Stars’ itself always get me quite emotional.

The Cure - ‘Wish’ (1992)

Wonderful collection of songs and it includes ‘Friday, I’m in Love’. Say no more!

Steve Vai - ‘Passion And Warfare’ (1990)

Our own daughter’s favourite album, so I’ve heard this a lot over the years. Wonderfully musically, technically guitar instrumental album. Really strong melodies throughout.

So, my favourites. What's yours from the 90's?
