My Favourite '80's Albums

In no particular order. Thanks to the wife - @SammyJo - and her lists of music, here's 10 of the albums that I enjoy from the 1980's.

Madonna - 'True Blue' (1986)

It's Madonna. It is, actually, my favourite ever album. Full of great songs. Gives me a complete teenage energy rush when I hear the first notes of the first song.

Madonna - 'Like A Prayer' (1989)

Iconic, in so many ways. Yes...it's more bloomin' Madonna. I love her. More iconic songs, so well produced and varied.

Duran Duran - 'Duran Duran' (1981)

Essentially, a more poppy and commercial version of Japan (remember them?). Great songs - 'Planet Earth', 'Girls On Film', 'Is There Something I Should Know?' - amongst them.

Duran Duran - 'Rio' (1982)

Far from being a difficult 2nd album, this one raises their game and is them at their peak. It sounds great. Great arrangements and performances. Works both as a selection of hits and a complete album.

ABBA - 'Super Trooper' (1980)

It's classic ABBA. Great singles - the title track, 'The Winner Takes It All', 'On And On', 'Happy New Year', 'The Piper', 'Lay All Your Love On Me' - and album tracks.

ABC - 'The Lexicon Of Love' (1982)

Produced by Trevor Horn, just some wonderfully classy pop music, with some lush vocals by Martin Fry.

Human League - 'Dare' (1981)

Rumour has it that this album was given out as standard issue to all homes in the UK. There's inconclusive proof of that, but what is real about it is that it's a cracker! Brilliant!

The Cure - 'Disintegration' (1989)

Great from start to finish. Tasteful, melodic, angular, thoughtful. Wonderful set of songs.

Yazoo - 'Upstairs At Eric's' (1982)

Sounded so futuristic at the time. All those keyboard sounds. Great songs, great vocals from Alison Moyet. Big hits on here.

Prince - 'Sign 'O The Times' (1987)

Prince's classic double album. Big hits and great album tracks - the title track, 'Play In The Sunshine', 'Starfish & Coffee', 'U Got The Look', 'If I Was Your Girlfriend', 'I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man', 'The Cross'...all wonderful.

Suzanne Vega - 'Solitude Standing' (1987)

Has 'Tom's Diner', the title track, 'Luka', 'In The Eye', 'Night Vision', 'Gypsy' amongst over wonderful, quirky folk-tinged tracks.

Whitney Houston - 'Whitney' (1987)

It was huge. You know the singles. Classic!

Also on the list, there would be Queen, Cyndi Lauper, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Spandau Ballet, Dexy's....
