My Favourite '70's Albums

In no particular order. Thanks to the wife - @SammyJo - and her lists of music, here's 10 of the albums that I enjoy from the 1970's.

Grease - 'The Original Soundtrack From The Motion Picture' (1978)


What a movie! What a soundtrack! Chock full of hits. It's a 70's experience.

ABBA - 'The Album' (1977)


More hits! 'The Eagle', 'Take A Chance On Me', 'The Name Of The Game', 'Thank You For The Music' and 'I'm A Marionette' are some highlights. Classic.

Blondie - 'Parallel Lines' (1978)


Wall to wall hits. A combination of pure pop, punk spirit and dance music in a unique blend that could only be Blondie. Love it.

Billy Joel - 'The Stranger' (1977)


Again, more late 70's! Billy Joel was one of my first albums that I got when I was a kid. I was infatuated with him for a number of years. 'Movin' Out', the title track, 'Just The Way You Are', 'Scenes From An Italian Restaurant' (My wife's favourite), 'Only The Good Die Young', 'She's Always A Woman'.

Tubeway Army - 'Replicas' (1979)


Gary Numan's band. Has 'Are Friend's Electric?' on it. Enough said. 'Me, I Disconnect From You', 'Down In The Park' and other cool tracks. Iconic.

XTC - 'Drums & Wires' (1979)


Has 'Making Plans For Nigel' on it, which was a huge hit. It sounds great. Fantastic album.

Joni Mitchell - 'Blue' (1971)


This is a late addition, having heard it in my late teens, and was a great album to sit down, play and get sad. Joni was breaking up with her partner at the time, and starting a new relationship. This was the result.

'All I Want', 'My Old Man', 'Little Green', 'Blue', 'This Flight Tonight' and other jewels are on here.

Kate Bush - 'The Kick Inside' (1978)


'Moving', 'The Saxophone Song' , 'Kite', 'Wuthering Heights' and many, many more. Big album, her debut, a benchmark in modern music.

David Bowie - 'The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars' (1972)


There's no bad songs on this album. Wall to wall classics.

ELO - 'Out Of The Blue' (1977)


Double album. Starts with 'Turn To Stone', 'Sweet Talkin' Woman', 'Mr Blue Sky', 'Wild West Hero'. Great album.

Others that I could add? Patti Smith and 'Horses', Pink Floyd and 'The Wall' and the debut Roxy Music album...
