Music in 12 Parts by Philip Glass

If you're a minimalist fan, you surely have heard of this, it seems to me like the holy grail of minimalism, and is enchanting my readings this morning!!

It just sounds like mental space bliss, I tried enjoying it a few days ago with my headphones, but guess what?!? Dad was bothered by the sound of it, he must have had the hearing aids in, but anyway, so now is the time to enjoy the whole work!

Other minimalist music I love are the following:

Terry Riley -- In C, and Rainbow in Curved Air
Steve Reich -- Music with 18 Musicians, Drumming, and more!!
Michael Nyman -- The Upside Down Violin and Musique Grand Vitesse
John Adams -- Shaker Loops, and Naive and Sentimental Music

a source made use of these composers as holy minimalists:

John Tavener -- The Protecting Veil, Ikon of Eros and many more
Henryk Gorecki -- 3rd Symphony for the most part
and Arvo Part -- Spiegel im spiegel, Festina Lente, Fratres, and many more.

Minimalist music helps me concentrate, but for dad, he's always yappin with the phrase "what does that do to your mind" and I just wanna say STFU dad, and have a snickering chuckle for a moment.

Some of the composers and pieces you mention are favourites of mine. Michael Nyman features in my collection and Philip Glass is usually very enjoyable when he comes up on the radio. I pretty sure I heard the composition you mention by Adams recently and made a mental note to seek it out. I have to be in the mood to listen to Górecki's 3rd because I need to listen all the way through and it is very moving. Just discovering Arvo Part and making up my mind.

@FreddieUK Thanks! Sublime stuff Arvo did, his earlier stuff was a little on the Schoenberg side of things, Credo is the best of those works, I also really love Silentium the transcendent 2nd part of Tabula Rasa. Enjoy!

To me, Steve Reich is the most important minimal art composer, and I wouldn't call Gorecki a minimalist. His 3rd symphony is, of course, a miracle.

@helenS Reich was indeed a visionary, his early tape work were foundational! ty for your input :)

@MrAlmostCrazy Here's Steve Reich's "Violin Phase" for electric guitar, played by Dominic Frasca. Enjoy! 🌷
