New (to me) old music - Cymande

I somehow missed this band completely, but it's a great story.

Cymande were formed in Brixton in the early 70s and had moderate success. After interest waned they gave up. Two of the founders retrained as barristers, one becoming Attorney General of Antigua.

In the 80s and later, their songs were sampled by hip hop acts, prompting renewed interest in their music. They reformed and have made new music and a film.

Here they are on Later with Jools Holland from few months ago.

I dig the Ska and immigrant music scene in London in the 70's, not that I know much about it.

@JimboSaturn I think they maybe struggled because they didn't really fit into any genre at the time.

@Lugwho I can see that.

@JimboSaturn A mix of funk, soul, reggae, rock, African music, calypso, and jazz that they called "nyah-rock"
