Just seen the obituary for Nadia Catouse.

An amazing lady from Belize (back when it was called Honduras)

She travelled from her homeland to the UK at the age of just 16.
Also just before the outbreak of World War 2; trained as a Signals Operator; became a P.T instructor with the Auxiliary Territorial Service; post war trained to be a Teacher; returned to Belize to teach there before returning to the UK in '51 when she gained a place at the L.S.E. to study Social Sciences.

She studied acting and singing in her spare time because she had been approached by agents liking the fact she 'looked different' wanting her fulfill roles in radio and television.
Which she saw as a way to help pay for her education.

She apparently met the Jazz singer Cleo Laine in a lift at the BBC and on the descent to the lobby, talked herself into few 'guest appearances' at her gigs !

And if all that wasn't enough of a life, she's also the mother of Mike Lindup.
A musician and composer of some merit himself.

Nadia Cattouse. November 2nd 1924 - October 29th 2024.
I just found out Belize was Honduras.
Wow. A hundred years old.
