The Highwaymen

Always loved them and their music. Recently received a 3 CD + Dvd set of a concert they gave at the Nassau Coliseum in 1990. Only Willie Nelson left now!

Some good stuff on the CD's but not sure of a few things stuck in the middle. About "Jesus" or whatever. And then Johnny Cash going on about Old Ragged Glory, the American Flag. Something like, "yea, people have the right to burn it, just so long as I have the right to pick up a gun and shoot them if they do". So that's what being "saved" amounts to.

But really, no quibbles. You can think what you like I suppose.

But a great album, "American Outlaws" Some great tracks.

I happen to love this song from them, so many told stories and untold stories and that's sometimes what a song/story should write about

@SW-User Yes, good one! Great lyrics. The whole set of Cd's and the Dvd of the concert has been great listening to. Especially with my new set of headphones!

PS The lyrics for some reason reminded me of a Philip Larkin poem, The Whitsun Weddings. The poem traces the sights and thoughts of someone passing through various stations, and seeing time and again the aftermath of Wedding Days - all joined together yet for each group their "special day".

The final verse:-

There we were aimed. And as we raced across
Bright knots of rail
Past standing Pullmans, walls of blackened moss
Came close, and it was nearly done, this frail
Travelling coincidence; and what it held
Stood ready to be loosed with all the power
That being changed can give. We slowed again,
And as the tightened brakes took hold, there swelled
A sense of falling, like an arrow-shower
Sent out of sight, somewhere becoming rain.

@SW-User It's a great song but I've always liked the Arlo Guthrie version better.
