Umm,wow. As I'd imagined,Chris' over the top delivery just sucks all the soul out of this for me.
I quite like what the band and mix engineer are doing here,though-it has a hint of the grit and sludge
of the original vibes of Nelcote in evidence,or at least an attempt to bring homage to them.
I saw Black Crowes at a small private event last year and they were really good,but still needed to break out a lyric sheet for "love in vain" which kind of cracked me up...
Every nuance of "exile" is firmly entrenched in my brainwaves...it was in the top 4 records I swiped from my parents way back when and so I don't take bands attempting that material lightly.
Still,worth trying,though.
In my opinion Pussy Galore did the best job ever of mangling and OWNING this album-

The legend goes that Neil Haggerty loved the record but Jon Spencer had never heard it...so a few days later they nailed this baby onto tape. I know it's sacrilege,part of why I love it.
