Great song. I've been to the shipwreck museum on the coast of Lake Superior in Michigan, They have a number of artifacts including the bell from the Edmund Fitzgerald. It was an interesting place.

@rocknroll From Google:
The SS Edmund Fitzgerald, a Great Lakes bulk cargo vessel, sank in Lake Superior on November 10, 1975, about 17 miles north-northwest of Whitefish Point, Michigan. The ship sank during a storm around 7:15 PM, killing all 29 crew members.

It's such a timeless and peerless example of the craft of songwriting.
If I had a dog maybe I'd name him "the wreck".
Guitar Bob and I used to ruin that song regularly years ago...but we meant well.
I only recently found the Butthole Surfer's version-a true thing of beauty as the great Mr.Paul Leary takes the riffage to another dimension and the Gibbytronics weave their legendary spell.

One of my HS English teachers. When Mr Fitz came in hungover (more than a few times) he'd be humming the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald!
Great teacher. Great guy
