I went to see Elvis Costello

It was an awesome show. If you’re a fan you know he plays a wide variety of music. He played this song on piano. I’d never heard it before, and it hit me hard right there in the middle of all these people at the concert. Although my eyes filled, thankfully I didn’t actually cry. Lol. He followed with a twisted version of Watching the Detective, and it pulled me back into a festive mood.

Many years ago I went to see Van Morrison, when he came out for the encore, Elvis Costello joined him and they performed together.

@VisionQuest That’s so cool! It’s been years, but I’ve seen Van Morrison as well, a few times. There used to be a concert series on a pier in New York that had some amazing people playing and I was lucky enough to catch some of them

@HeavenBesideYou First time I saw Van was at Randall's Island! Drove from Chicago for the Guinness Fleadh!

I saw him soon after his first album. He did most of the songs from his second album which hadn't been released yet. A good show even though no one was familiar with most of the songs.

I saw him on Saturday Night Live when got partway into a song and then stopped and did "Radio Radio" and was banned for years. I was waiting outside Peaches, a huge record store, the next morning when they opened. I was sure there would be a big rush to get his album. They had a few copies. I seemed to be the only one who cared.

@hunkalove I’ve seen that snl vid. And he did it again more recently, but of course it was planned.
MoodysGoose · 51-55, M
I am almost embarassed to admit, i wasnt always the biggest fan, but over time, and listening to some of his deep cuts rather than just the songs that made it on to radio back in the day ( does anyone remember radio? 🤔 Well, anyhoo, ive come to appreciate Elvis Costello and this song is very soulful indeed. Thanks for sharing .

@MoodysGoose Me too, but honestly I don’t like the crowds so much anymore. He played in a smallish venue not too far from where I live, and tickets were reasonable, so I went. Glad I did. It was a great show
MoodysGoose · 51-55, M
@HeavenBesideYou i totally agree about the crowds. I used to love concerts , and i still love the music, but the crowds? Not so much.

I enjoy seeing acts perform in smaller venues with good accoustics.
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
@MoodysGoose Same. 👍

I saw him back in the 90s. I won free tickets from a radio station by being the 1st caller
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
@HumanEarth I know people that never grew out of that mentality. 😂
HumanEarth · F
I'm so glad I did
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
@HumanEarth We definitely all should.

I've seen Elvis twice. Once in the 70's and once in the 80's.

I liked his music more back then. It was edgier and more militant (not much interpretation needed for "you'll never make a lampshade out of me")
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
@Thrust I was a fan in the 80’s, but still was happy to get to go see him live.
supersnipe · 61-69, M
Soulful! Nice to see him still going strong and making good music. He's almost a contemporary of mine (two years older) and I first heard him in 1977.
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
@supersnipe Sweet! He definitely is still going strong. And Charlie sexton on guitar was an added benefit!

At Bexhill, ten years ago. His rendition of ‘She’ was out of this world. It was a pre tour venue.

I have his Juliet Letters.

@SW-User Nice! I was pretty close, didn’t even think of getting a pic. Lol. 🤷‍♀️

@HeavenBesideYou

Are you in NY? Randall's Island is practically in my front yard 😊
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
@Slade nope. I’m in Georgia, but lived up that way in my 20’s
He is still bringing it.
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
He definitely is! Played for over 2 hours. It was a great show. @Sojournersoul
@HeavenBesideYou glad you enjoyed and love his music
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
@Sojournersoul Thanks. I’m a fan from way back when. Was grateful to get to go see him.
Dino11 · M
Are he and Diana Krall still together?
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
@Dino11 Idk? She wasn’t there.

I saw him with The Impostors, opening for The Police. They got standing ovations!

@HeavenBesideYou 60's not old anymore - at least from where I'm standing...and my music's gotten better over the last few years, so it makes total sense that artists that love the craft like EC are still at - great idea to go see him!
