How hard is it to sing, really?

or if anybody took professional lessons. just curious

I believe that singers are born. Breath control is not easy, neither is singing in a group or with a band. The little I do is rewarding, though. I'm ok with not being "a singer" per se, as I can carry a tune and/or find a harmony part if I'm doing backing vocals.
