@HairbrushDiva I grew up with it, my Dad had all the great albums and would play them constantly, much to my casual racist mother's dislike, which she only recently openly admitted to after I confronted her about it.

@NativePortlander1970 Why was your mum racist? There's none of that where I come from. Manchester is an equalitarian city.

@HairbrushDiva Her father was very racist, an old iowa farmer with a Scandinavian heritage, some of it rubbed off on her and her older siblings, she's the youngest of 5.

@NativePortlander1970 It must be awful to grow up with such bigotry. It's unthinkable in my neighbourhood.

@HairbrushDiva It was disgusting, my Dad walked in a civil rights march in DownTown Portland in 1965 the day before he left for Air Force basic training, alongside his Dad, we're all white. I was born 15 months after he left the Air Force in 1970. My Dad most likely suspected her of racism, but I don't know, he died when I was ten.
