Rufus Wainwright ~ Peaceful Afternoon

To give this song the proper honour it deserves, instead of my "upset" post weeks ago. I feel his words standalone without needing of introduction, but having seen it live in person, in his first performance of it, was beautiful. Brought about a tear from my soul; as he had been a reckless twat in his ways, he'll even acknowledge, in the song..... "a fecund source for anger"

Well it's coming onto 13 years together, babe
I pray that it's the luck... a lucky, lucky number
And although I know I've brought you joy and happiness, babe
I've also been a fec... a fecund resource for anger
'Cause it's all a part of the game
Yeah, it's all a part of the symphony
And I pray that your face is the last I see
On a peaceful afternoon
And now that our machine is running at full steam
I pray that nothing shucks a wrench into the matter
But between sex and death and tryin' to keep the kitchen clean
Remember wild the roses bloom best in ruins forever after
'Cause it's all a part of the game
Yeah, it's all a part of the symphony
And I pray that your face is the last I see
On a peaceful afternoon
Leaving the living room
Yeah, it's all a part of the game
Yeah, it's all a part of the symphony
And I pray that your face is the last I see
On a peaceful afternoon
And just in case you go before me
Rest assured that of this I can guarantee
That my face, that my face is the last you'll see
On a peaceful afternoon
Leaving the living
Living room

I'm glad the song now brings about a different feeling for you. It's a wonderful sign of growth......🥀........🌷
@SW-User Bless your precious heart. I understand perfectly, and I prefer to call them gentle reminders. 😉💞

@MoonlightLullabyOld Thank you. Bless yours, too. This artist, and this will help you with me.... Once I love an artist, I dive in to understand their meanings more and more. Since I have seen him live four times, each time being different, from his folky pop songs, to almost operatic performances of watching him perform Shakespearen sonnets, dressed as a crow grieving his mother's loss, all done theatrically, to him re-performing Judy Garland, note for note, word for word (to the point of saying, Judy spoke here, so I speak here, and now I feel like Judy Garlands secretary), to a more intimate performance of him (where the song above was performed), where he reacquainted himself with performing on stage. I do know the intimate details of his artistry, so I should know where I have betrayed his meanings.

And you are right, they are gentle reminders. 😉💕

All trying to express, I prefer listening to one's entire works, instead of just one piece to learn them.
@SW-User Wow. He sounds like quite the talented artist! Of course you had me at " watching him perform Shakespearen sonnets". I know I love the musical renditions of Byron's sonnets. I must admit, one I love because of their depth, yet I hate it because they left out an entire stanza.😉🤭

I prefer listening to one's entire works, instead of just one piece to learn them.

I'm learning this about you more and more. It's a wonderful quality.✨
