“Ring Bell” – Herb Alpert & Hugh Masekela

[media=https://youtu.be/oRDQCSD3p4c]
This is a track from the 1978 studio album, Herb Alpert / Hugh Masekela. As its title suggests, the album is a collaborative work by the well-known American trumpeter, Herb Alpert, and South African musician and composer, Hugh Masekela.

Masekela probably is best-known in the U.S. for his 1968 hit, “Grazing in the Grass”. He passed away in 2018 and is remembered as "the father of South African jazz".

I’ve long held the opinion that Herb Alpert made his best music after the Tijuana Brass disbanded in 1969. The lovely tune, “Ring Bell”, is but one example of the wonderful music he has recorded post-TJB.

I grew up playing Herb Alpert and the Tijuanna Brass music with the records and songbooks on my trumpet. Aside from Rise, I have never heard much of his later music. I will have to check out this and his other post TB music. Good post!

@Chagrinned Thank you. Much appreciated.

Here's another post-TJB tune that I think is really good. It's from Alpert's 1982 album, Fandango.
