How to use Spotify ?

Spotify is always asking me to use premium I had it but I didn't know how to update my payment it wouldn't let me even with a brand new card. My friend said she can use it without paying when I try it makes me do the 6 skips limit she said hers does nothing just automatically works. How do you use Spotify without paying or the 6 skip limit ?
