What an amazing drummer. I loved that band so much.
Funny story about not being gullible:
When Alan White was about 19 he was in a pub band. He got a phone call from someone claiming to be John Lennon. Hey, it's John Lennon here. I'm going to do a concert in Canada tomorrow and I've got Eric (Clapton) and Klaus and I'd like you to drum. Can you come tomorrow?
So he figured it was his mates, just laughed and hung up.
Phone rang again. Hi. It's John here. I'll send a taxi in the morning.
He thought, nah. can't be.
Next morning taxi arrived - John lennon was waiting at the airport, they went through the songs on the flight with no instruments and him tapping the back of the plane seat kind of thing and that night he was on stage with John Lennon in Canada. He drummed on a few of Lennon's solo albums. Even though he was young, he suggested that the first verse of Imagine should be just voice and piano, so John agreed.

@Abstraction Great story!!!!!! Thanks!!👍
Sorry your musical nostalgia took a hit. When we feel the music so much & deeply so, it's almost as if a part of us dies

Thx @MoonlightLullaby 😚
These people even though strangers, were part of our formative years. Remembering them brings us back to our younger selves realizing how the years have passed...

You must be a decent drummer. Seriously. Steve Howe was my favourite guitarist - and not easy to copy like most of the others I liked.

@Abstraction I was a real prog rock nut - Yes, old Genesis, King Crimson, ELP etc...no more drumming - but picked up guitar - Howe is my favorite guitarist also, groundbreaking really - I can only play bits and pieces of his stuff...

@fun4us2b Same. Same bands too. I taught myself Mood for a Day back then - I can still play it. If I pick up a nice guitar I will always play that acoustic bit from And You & I because it resonates so beautifully. I could work out Ritchie Blackmore solos but Steve Howe's stuff was insane.
Huge loss….what a talented artist he was! This week has been the worst 😭 💔🥀🤍

What's going on is the natural cycle of life. People age and die. It happens to all of us. What's the big mystery?

Have you tried googling 'Life"?

Listening to Sound Chaser. Alan's best drumming on any recording in my view...Relayer depicts Alan to the T.
