On this day in 1979, the Bee Gees song “Tragedy” reached #1 on the US singles chart, demonstrating that disco was stayin’ alive despite a burgeoning anti-disco backlash.

This was the very first 45 single I bought with my own money. I got home and was so excited to play it! I took it out of the sleeve and dropped it. It hit the corner of the record player cover and scratched. So it would skip when I played it. The drum hit at 4:09 in this video followed by them singing “Tragedy” would play over and over again. 😄

And the bee gees ended in tragedy which is sad. I always liked the song I started a joke whick made the whole world laughing
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Lilnonames They did indeed. Barry (the oldest) is the only Gibb brother still alive.

I like it too. It's a classic from their pre-disco days.
