Gary Brooker and Keith Reid were introduced at a party by a mutual friend who said “This is Gary, he writes music...and this is Keith, he writes words”.
They talked for a while, and Keith gave Gary the words to “A Whiter Shade of Pale”.
Gary, along with fellow keyboard player Matthew Fisher, came up with the music and the song became a hit for their band, Procul Harum.
The collaboration between Brooker and Reid continued, producing many more songs for the band.

This song is a masterpiece even though the melody is based on a work by JS Bach
