@JohnnyNoir I really can't say which is their best. They made a series of FOUR (!!!) brilliant albums: TRESPASS, NURSERY CRYME, FOXTROT, and SELLING ENGLAND. Fantastic musicianship. Apparently it wasn't about playing fast, or playing loud catchy riffs. It was all about [u]writing[/u].
LAMB LIES DOWN sounds almost like a Peter Gabriel solo album, to me (cf. Peter Gabriel II "Scratch"); and all post-Gabriel albums are mediocre at best.

@helenS I always liked this one the best. The first couple of post Gabriel records were okay but I never bought into the Phil Collins FM hit band era. Loved their first live record too.

@JohnnyNoir I have the first post-Gabriel album (don't remember the name right now), but when I listened to it, I got the impression the boys said "Hey, our main attraction has left, let's prove we can still make a Genesis album without him". That's why it sounds rather "generic". Genesis playing Genesis-style music. Not sure if I can express myself clearly. It's as if you would hire 4 session musicians and pay them to make a "genuine" Genesis album.

@helenS I want to say Trick of the Tail was the record. I've yet to hear Lamb Lies Down all the way through though. Couple of good songs though. A good friend of mine is a huge fan so I've heard all the older ones too. I still think Gabriel is a great artist and performer.

@JohnnyNoir Yes but he is so goddam' lazy! He makes a new album every other decade...
