@2cool4school A unique personage with a peerless body of work. I still bum out at times at the realization that I live in a world without Lee Perry in it.But then I go,geez,dude-you saw him live like a dozen times and hung out with him on several occasions,so tighten up,buttercup. That shit was priceless.
He really could read minds. He scanned my brain the first time during his second appearance at Maritime Hall and did not like what I was putting out.I was all lit up on speed and into some dark energies and it was one of those times where I had wrapped a bunch of colored telephone wires and circuit boards and junk all through my dreads going around like-look at me,ladies-I am the bionic dread who holds the mystic meteorite and you would do well by hosting me on yer couch, you dig?
So in retrospect it was a good lesson in mental hygiene because that little elf guy in the spotlight who I friggin worship just took a look in my mind and was not amused I ought to work on that, and then years later when I bluffed my way backstage and we were both sober we cracked a few jokes and ate bananas and played around with this big robot toy he had.The man could shift from wisest elder ever to silliest kid on the block from sentence to sentence. Oh,yeah-I really like his music.

@dubkebab I saw him a few times but I don’t think I’ll ever forget my first show. Eugene was buzzing with excitement and I just happened to be at a well connected friends house when someone from Lee’s entourage came by for some local vegetative inspiration. And when at show we heard several references to the Oregon cannabis and the Hash or kief I believe was attained through my friend. It was actually pretty good blonde hash or kief I just don’t remember. But I just fell into the legend of Lee and the musicians he discovered and produced (Bob Marley I believe?) as well as the unique styles and techniques that he pursued. Sure maybe someone else would have come along and figured out scratching but it amazes me how hip-hop traces its roots to his skills. I do feel like his music has the power to put me in a relaxed state very similar to my feelings on thc. I’m just not sure if it’s because I had a lot of muscle memory built in from consuming at reggae shows or is it the bests and sounds themselves?? Always happy to see you around. Hope you’re having a great night 😊☺️
