why does many youtube music videos sound better than my cd player

many of the old music videos from the 60s, 70s and 80s which ordinary users have uploaded sound better in playback than the cds do in my stereo cd player.....is this because those music videos are uploaded from record/vinyl recordings? and sound deeper, better all round quality?

or is it the case that my cds will be poor manufactured quality or my cd player needs replacing and isn't that good?

I don't think YT sounds particularly good due to the compression that occurs. But what sounds "good" is subjective. YT videos come from a variety of sources and it's possible you are hearing a vinyl rip or different CD mastering than the one you have.
