My dad wrote this song and I recorded and mixed it. Just looking for some honest reviews.

It's got massive potential and I like the sentiment behind the lyrics.
The vocal sound is good and the mix is overall pretty good.

The issues, as I see them:
The backing track feels loose and untight in parts, yet stiff in others.
The vocal could use another few passes to get rid of pitch issues(or Melodyne them).
Singer has a nice voice that reminds me of Johnny Cash a bit but sounds unsure of how to sing certain parts and/or lacks breath control.

Suggestions:
Maybe double the vocal or do some harmony in the bridge.
I could hear some backing parts in my head in the choruses, either unison parts or something staggered behind them.

But, as they say, what do I know?

@DarkHeaven Thank you so much for your feedback. I know it needs work. He plays all the instruments and sings and I record, so it can be challenging to make good music with just the two of us. We're also both self taught so there's a bit of a learning curve. That's why I really appreciate the advice. It helps us improve. I might post an updated version later on and there are other songs we have done that I might post, so keep an eye out if you're interested.
