What is your general opinion on cover songs ?

i am a big fan if an artist adds to an already good song, it often is even better then. it sucks if its just a copy and sounds exactly the same... it must be drastically different.

I usually like them when they go in different directions, sometimes it can be just a subtle nuance change, but yeah... trying to make the same song over again seems dumb.

Like, if people want to record them playing songs other people wrote, that's fine. I don't care. I do it.
I don't know why there would be any controversy about it. It doesn't impact the original work at all.
