Are you loving by proxy?

I looked up the lyrics to that song and in that context I think he meant he was doing all the loving (he was giving and she was just taking). But it doesn't seem correct - because it should mean you love via someone else, unless he meant she was loving herself via him?

Loving by proxy is letting the other party do all the loving FOR you, I'm pretty sure 🤔 or at least that's how I've understood it lol.

Like, not doing any of the loving yourself, just being the receiver of it.
