Why is there so much digital vocal "enhancement" (auto-tune) in pop music today?

Yeah, it's easy to hate on, but seriously.. that's hardly music, and definitely not talent.

Yet, society just eats this up and considers these "artists" worthy of our modern day worship.

It's kind of embarrassing, really, that this commercial fad is so chart topping.
