Anyone like the music of Korngold?

I was impressed by the slow movement of his symphony, yesterday. He wrote many Hollywood swashbuckler scores. A critic of the time described it as "more Corn than Gold".

I love his opera “Die Tote Stadt” (“The Dead City”).

@helenS Some of his film music is gorgeous and lush. Must find time for Die Tote. Opera isn't too high on my list. I like most of Janacek's. I suppose my favourite modern composer is Malcolm Arnold. see if you can listen to his Sym7/1st.mvt.

@alan20 I already found some of his work on Apple Music, but I haven't had the time to give it a listen yet.

(Too busy with Parsifal! "Amforrrrtas! The wooound!"😁)

@helenS Tchaikovsky described Parsifal as attending a never-ending religious service. And he wouldn't have been jealous about the nice girls.

@alan20 "One might say that where Religion becomes artificial, it is reserved for Art to save the spirit of religion by recognising the figurative value of the mythic symbols which the former would have us believe in their literal sense, and revealing their deep and hidden truth through an ideal presentation." (R. Wagner, "Art and Religion").
