Strictly old school, like Public Enemy (Fear of A Black Planet), Kid and Play (Face The Nation) Queen Latifah (Black Reign, Nature of A Sistuh) Def Jef (Just A Poet With A Soul), Salt n' Pepa (Very Necessary) LLCool J (Mama Said Knock You Out) it seemed more positive, but mostly because it predated the "gangsta" genre that pushed out all other voices that weren't talking about "gangs, 'hoes' and crime".
