@Bluesky52 Made me look up Jackie Blue ,,if you wanna get to heaven you got to raise a little hell ,,Amie ,,I love Willie especially for his longevity ,,but I loved him the best when he sang with Waylon ,,Poco harlem ,,,all good albums
Imaginary Lover is one I still sing regularly
We lived in a time when music was music ,,,we will never pass this way again 🖖
Bluesky52 · 61-69, M
I know a couple of members of OZARK,i talk to randell once in awhile on facebook,i met soup, cash,i was friend with rob the drummer,i met Clinton another later member when I lived in springfield,mo,,,,,the willie records ae good, very much country rock records his band makes em country rock,,,,poco records are good to have,my fav is rose of cimaron from 76 with timothy b Schmidt,,,,,and I love firefall, too,i cant recall if I spoke to him on facebook, but he has ties to Kansas where he was born,
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@Bluesky52 Tim Schmidt is an artist often over shadowed by the other Eagles
I can't tell you why is still one of my most requested cover tunes ,,
Most of the band members I personally knew ,,like my own band members passed away

We have 2 members of the Skynard band living locally ,my family does work for them from time to time ,,an hour away from their hometown of Jacksonville ,,
I knew Greg Allman ,Met Tom Petty at a few local events ,
Bo Diddley ,He liked to show up in local clubs to have people make over him ,,but he was cool ,
Met Artimus Pyle when my brother in law said he went to school with his son ,,I called him a liar ,,but he wasn't ,Artimus and 3 other famous drummers had thrown in with the local music store in Hendersonville NC to open Paul T's ,,each of them gave drum lessons and preformed at local gigs ,
I have had members of other bands show up at my shows ,even set in from time to time ,,I actually hate name dropping or even sharing who I am ,,I am just an old worn out has been rocker now ,,no one important except as a Dad and Grandpa

All those guys influenced my style of music
After the 90's I quit playing a while ( severe back problems )
Started writing my own stuff and touring with my daughters as a gospel group after 95
I lost my bass player in June ,,He was in rehearsal for an event we played for our fans every 4th of July ,,He had just been diagnosed with lung cancer
He went down in the studio ,passed in hospice the next day
I am the last member left ,,with all my health problems we thought I would be the first to go .
Since his death I decided to give it up too ,,no one could replace him anyway
now my own issues are catching up with me ,,so I guess it was just our time
We had a 30 yr run ,,we did everything we wanted to do ,no regrets
We seen a million faces ,and we rocked them all 🤘

I knew musicians who shared the stay the stage with skynyrd,,,,I was told rossington wasn't that friendly, due to the plane crash, his wife was hard to get along with, she ran people off, they were more reserved than friendly,i talk to jo jo a lady who sang back up,she later died, she told me a lot about em too, quite a story,
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@Bluesky52 Yea ,,Johnny said all the stuff Artimus tells is all lies
he ran from the plane ,not stayed and held Cassies neck as she bled out like he said
The man that owned the land gave 2 statements ,,,one said he ran past him like he seen a ghost ,,another that he stayed ,,I have both interviews
Billy Powell said he ran and that was all he wanted to say on the subject
But now he gives drum lessons and someone else plays for Johnny if that says anything ..
I never brag about who I know to much ,,I like my privacy ,,my family not being targets for some ass trying to get at me or extort money from my family ..
So I keep info about them to myself ,,Even shows we did together and they do the same ,,I like being only known by people asking if my family sang at their church or if that was us they seen in Greenville or somewhere we did a concert

Lots of those people on the net are "Official fan Clubs " not actual members
I seen a guy saying he was Artimus on you tube ,,so He knows who I am
I asked him things I know the real Artimus would know ,,the guy fed me pure BS

Yea Gary and Ronnie got into a fight ,,thats how they met ,,Gary still tells the story every chance he gets
and yes they have been known to tear up a few bars ,,,even the one in the little city Johnny lives in ,,they named the bar the Jug after the one in gimme 3 steps thats in Jacksonville Florida ,,so its the JUG 2 ,,during Abate (bike rally ) they have been know to show up and raise a little hell ,,and fight ,,,at 70 yrs old LOL
Bluesky52 · 61-69, M
yeah gary own the band his wife runs it,he lets her,,,,
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@Bluesky52 not so sure thats true ,
a washed up Rhythm player is not that hard to replace ,even a famous one
I have fired a few myself ,,,thinking they are Gods gift to a band
I made everyone of my guys sit out gigs ,,,so they could see
None of us make the band alone ,and I am the lead singer
there is always someone willing to take our place ,,,except I out lived all my band mates ,,and I am one of the founders ..the other was the first to die ..
The entire Van Zant family have all had very successful bands
Johnny is a carbon copy of Ronnie and twice as cocky
People love that he keeps his brothers band in tact
and all the old ones have died just a few left ,,Gary just plays ,he's not an upfront man ,,and I can tell you ,NO WOMAN runs Johnny
Don't believe everything you read on the net ,or that the person your talking to is actually say they are ,,,
Bluesky52 · 61-69, M
I think I crossed paths with johnny in a bass pro shop about 10 years ago,TRUE,,,,,music is a hard business,i'd rather be behind the scenes,a lot of attitudes out there,
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@Bluesky52 that is entirely possible ,he has a house on the water and does a lot of fishing ,,,I prefer to sing my ass off ,,and hire people to make sure that is all I have to do ,,and they know I am not changing for anyone again .
I have already been famous and it turned my passion into a job ,,took all the joy out of it ,
I only play now for fun ,,,if I get paid ,,,icing on the cake
I made as much a night in tips in small clubs
as having all the expenses deducted ,,all the hands in the pie getting paid
I made out better with a manager and doing small gigs then all the time of the road ,,and you get to come home ,choose what you play .
Being a music man ain't always the way its suppose to be ---Steve Perry
I loved it ,,but it cost me a lot too ,,and when its a job
you aren't giving the fans your best ,,your just going through the motions
I am there for them ,and they give me the desire to keep doing it
I am retiring now ,,done with most of it ,but I still love a good jam session with old friends ,,famous or not
I would love to get an invite to Daryl's House ,,,thats a jam I am always down for ,,,He knows all the greats ,and he and john are 2 of them
Have a good one
