I knew I was going to like it as soon as I saw who it was. I’m a sucker for that era.

“Dusic” by Brick has been the song stuck in my head lately.

I just learned about these guys from a podcast a few months ago. Brick was formed when a disco band and a jazz band merged, and they coined the term “Dazz” meaning disco+jazz. Then they just did the same thing with disco+music for “Dusic”. @Bootsiebaby

You just taught me something, because I was not familiar with that term. 😁@Bootsiebaby

I’m familiar with portmanteau words. I just don’t recall running across the actual term portmanteau. If I have, I’d completely forgotten it. @Bootsiebaby

I’ll blame my podunk country school district and upbringing. 😆 @Bootsiebaby

“Podunk” means a tiny, insignificant little town, which is an apt description of where I grew up. @Bootsiebaby

Where’s your neck of the woods, if I may ask? @Bootsiebaby

The middle of nowhere Ohio is where I grew up. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the Amish, but I grew up in an area where there were (and still are) people who use horse and buggies for transportation and have disavowed any modern technologies and conveniences. @Bootsiebaby

There are enclaves of Amish people in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and a few other places. They basically live like everyone lived prior to the Industrial Revolution. They have no electricity or any other things we use every day. However, there is some flexibility allowed where they can do things like ride in motor vehicles as long as they aren’t the ones operating them. For the most part, they keep to themselves and live in rather insulated communities. I don’t know a great deal about their origins or why they chose to forego the advances that were being made around them. I just grew up in a small town where they had their schools and customs, and we had ours. @Bootsiebaby
