Do you have records collection and what carriers?

I have vynils, audio cassettes and compact discs. I love to play those the old school way. mp3 or Spotify is always there, but there's nothing like the dust on your vynil or rewinding an audio cassette manually with a pen.

I'm closing in on 2000 records. I'd have more, but I throw a lot of them back if I don't like them. I think there's a difference between a collector and a hoarder, though. I know people with 8000+ records who just play the numbers game and keep everything. I'd rather have 2000 records I enjoy and will listen to again instead of a mountain of records that I likely won't.

@SW-User what genres and artists?

@veghard I've got pretty eclectic tastes. I've got jazz and big band records from the 40's, rock records from the early 50's to this year, soul and funk records, metal, old school country, and some classical records, as well. As far as well known artists, I've got every Stones, Kinks, DC5, T-Rex, Beatles, Slade, Queen, and P-Funk record. I've also got a ton of crooners like Sinatra, Martin, Bennett, and Nat King Cole. I'm a Sun Records junkie, so I grab those whenever I find them. Bill Withers is one of my all-time favorites along with 60's-70's Stevie Wonder. I also have a lot of obscurities, because I buy records all the time on a hunch. Some of them turn out to be great lost gems. I also look for newer bands, too.

@SW-User Man... I know your hunger. But I am far far behind with ~300 copies only. I like your taste! It is really hard to maintain such a big collection, though. What do you feed it with, I mean... What are the new bands you were speaking about...

Newer bands/artists that I've really gotten into this year and have added to the collection:
Royal Blood
Royal Republic
Holy White Hounds
The Struts
The Beaches
The Shelters
Fantastic Negrito
Ty Segall
Father John Misty
All Them Witches
Leon Bridges

I'm sure I'm leaving some out, but those are the ones that come to mind immediately.

@SW-User I just went to a Jethro Tull concert this evening. Was fascinated by the music, but Ian Anderson's voice is really bad.

In this matter some new bands are better than the old ones. But that's regarding writing new music and playing live only. Although it is not always true.

Royal Republic are quite fun! Did you hear Greta Van Fleet?

@veghard Jethro Tull is one of the two bands responsible for my addiction. When I was 6, my dad bought "Songs from the Wood" and Kiss's "Rock and Roll Over" the same day. When he played those two records, my head almost exploded. I taught myself how to run the big stereo, so I could listen to them over and over again. The first money I ever earned for chores went to buy Kiss Alive II, and I've owned records ever since.

I like bands that wear their influences on their sleeves. (The Wildhearts come to mind.). My issue with GVF is that I only hear one single influence, which is obviously Zeppelin. I've tried to get into them, but I just can't. They definitely have some chops, but they need to expand beyond what they're doing and allow other influences to come through.

@SW-User You obviously are a meloman! I'd be happy to speak to you more on here. I will write you some time, if that's OK, to get to know more about tastes.
