No. It was a car commercial for the New Yorker back in the day- a jingle -and it got old.

@Bootsiebaby And that is fine. We each have our own takes on it. You asked if I like it. I don't. I was in my 20's when that came out. Minus the tie in to the car I may have liked it more.

@Bootsiebaby I was graduating college in 1977. The "77" is homage to a late 50's TV shop that was hilarious,(and detective) 77 Sunset Strip" It ran until 1964. Don Ralke and his orchestra performed the Theme song for it. I know as I have the 45 of it.

Dated--and forgotten- but it was a neat opening at the time.

@Bootsiebaby It does, it was actually jazzed up a bit to cash in on the popularity of the show. That is not how the song sounded at the beginning of the show. "Kookie, Kookie, Lend me your comb" a big hit- was taken from that show. As Kookie was Ed "Kookie" Byrnes

The opening- see how different form the release? It's a bit long(at 3 minutes)- but you get the idea.

@Bootsiebaby The Kookie song fit perfectly into the kind of songs that were charting in 1960 and slightly before. "Witch Doctor", "Charlie Brown", "Who Put The Bomp" "Old Mac Donald(Frank Sinatra) and more.

Well the show was produced by Warner Bros, a movie studio, so I get what you mean.

@Bootsiebaby He was--but he had quite a few humorous songs as well. That was one if them. Or rather, a great take on it, Lucky him--and her.

The Coffee Song- original but with ending cut off due to complaints.

Both are awesome and great in playlists.

@Bootsiebaby The South American community complained about the ending on the song- As "Pedro" was generalizing and Patronizing. They were upset about that much as the Blacks were about the name 'Sambo" Even if it did not refer to a book.

So the ending that you hear in cut short-a bit. But we have grown do used to it that we take it as the ending. There is also a version-from that time where the "Pedro" ending does nor exist. i think that is why the poster made the inference it was complete. They put coffee in the coffee in Brazil!

HA! frank sure had fun with that song! It was a bit saucy! I guess he made an impression on her dad? I a sure your Father never did sing this version- lol

Bobby Darin made a out bet that no one could have a hit with "Old McDonald" Frank did. So Bobby had to record "Clementine" Look for it.

@Bootsiebaby I had the Sambo book as a child and I never got the inferences. I wa sjust a story like Uncle Remus. And I grew up not hating blacks, whites or any other. I still do not get the hate.

Sambo's used to be a very popular chair restaurant. About 30 years back they changed their name to Sam's- that failed. Denny's bought most of them.

If I was not hating in 1962 or 63--when I read it, I see no reason to hate now.
