Is there a reason to listen to music other than for entertainment purposes?

Absolutely.

Language works because we create systems of shared meaning, and these systems communicate things about ourselves and others.

Music isn't just about entertainment, it's about showing others who we are, and making sense of who others are.

That's why it's so exciting when you meet someone who really loves the music you do. If it were all about entertainment, it wouldn't be that big a deal, but it is. In a lot of ways, if someone gets their music, they get you.

This is a huge reason I don't say "I hate x" Having an open mind musically, is to have a window into another person's world.
