So, I saw Megadeth live in concert last night...

Not gonna lie...had I known just how mediocre Mustaine was going to be, I probably would have just stayed at home and tended to the cold I caught shortly before the event (which may or may not have impacted my perception of the experience, but it certainly didn't seem like it was just the fact that my sinuses were clogged and my head felt shitty).

The musicianship was wonderful, there was no doubt about that - the drummer was fantastic and all the guitar playing was on point. But that's really the best thing I can say about it.

Unfortunately, time has not been kind to Dave Mustaine's vocals (and this was the exact problem I had with "Dystopia", the most recently released Megadeth album). Very disappointed with the performance he gave as far as his singing. I'm not even saying his early days as the band's vocalist were anything to write home about. His voice, I believe, was at its highest quality from 2000 - 2012. After that, he went downhill majorly.

My other big gripe was the detuned guitars. I'm sorry, but songs like "Sweating Bullets", "Countdown to Extinction" and "Trust" do NOT sound the same when played in D tuning, which is what the guitars were in for a majority of the show (and likely to accommodate Dave's deteriorated voice).

Out of the Big 4 of thrash metal, their's has certainly been the most disappointing live show in my experience. With them, Slayer and Anthrax scratched off the list, I still need to see Metallica in concert, but I'm hoping they will be much better (as I honestly thought Hetfield sounded better on their newest record than he had in years).
