Satie's Gymnopédie no. 1
The celebrate French pianist and composer Erik Satie, was born 17th May 1866. To mark the occasion, lets now dive into the greatest recordings of his famous piano works.
Strangely enough a reviewer like David Hurwitz doesn't even bother offering any because they're all the same, equally as good because of the simularity of the various elements that define a really good recording.
Gil Zilkha, however, does do the effort of looking a bit further. His recommendation is the wonderous Aldo Ciccolini recordings of the 1960s. More than anyone else, Ciccolini rescued the piano works of Erik Satie from obscurity, beginning in concerts during the 1950s.
