Practice Practice Practice

I started playing the piano when I was 12. I played and studied all through out college and became really good. I never had the natural gift of playing music. I need to read music, study and practice. I have recently gotten back into playing and have lost 70% of my ability. If you are reading this and play like I used to, never stop. Keep playing for your enjoyment.

I play guitar and have also been playing since I was around 12.
I went through a real depressive spell that lasted about 3 yeas. I didn't do anything including play that damn guitar.
When I finally got back into it I had the same problem. My brain knew what it wanted to do. My brain also remembered that I used to be able to do it. But my fingers were having no part of it.
I am about back into the swing of it. It took about 2 years.

@Dainbramadge seems to be exactly what is happening to me. I was classically trained and I think about all the scales and runs I used to do as well as playing such challenging pieces. Now my fingered feel like a jumbled mess. 2 years. I want to stick with it. I miss it. Glad to hear it’s finally back for you. Must be a great feeling.
I used to play the bagpipes and stopped, tried to pick it back up after a few years and lost all of my ability to play.
Your fingers will come back, it’s like riding a bike…but way harder

@Ghostinthemachine thank you! I want to believe that.
@lovelychicadee just keep at it, and find the joy it gives you to play. That’s what I do, I don’t seek perfection, and I find neither do the people who listen. They just enjoy the music
