Playing Guitar

After playing for 15 years, I'm still a "simplified chords" kind of person. When a song comes on, I slide my finger along the E4 string until I hear it match, then slap the capo on. G is just my favorite chord. I like to play a more contemporary G, requiring all fingers. If I ever have a free finger, I don't want it to feel left out. I'll throw it in and do something with it. If it's not right, most people will just think it's my own artistic touch. Yeah... that's what it is. I've been playing a lot of The Lumineers lately, which is always C, F, and Am. I have a strange F that I found, but it sounds great. I can do the F, C, and G by only moving two fingers (index and middle). Teaching myself has had its benefits. I always avoid the B chord, though. That one's the devil.
I bet you've developed a really good ear. Your approach is advantageous in that it gives you a extra finger to add coloration as you do and probably more range in stretching to notes further up from the capo. I like it.
