So hard to pick one overall favourite as many I like play different styles. Billy Gibbons is a blues rock master, Nuno Bettencourt blends rock and Funk brilliantly, Alex Lifeson is a genius player, and Steve Vai is phenomenonal and completely unique.
However, if I had to pick one, it's someone who can riff like a demon, shred like a god, and put so much feel into his playing he doesn't need words, one who can just about out play pretty much anyone else, it's John Petrucci.

A friend of mine. He studied under a couple blues guitar legends and is now working as a professor along side his own musician work. He will always be my favorite. And I always enjoy making time to watch a gig. I used to drive hours to watch his recitals and other things when he was in university getting his bachelor's and masters, and then his doctorate. His doctorate paper was an amazing read too.
