Amazing pieces of classical music - 3

Purcell's Trumpet Sonata in D Major, Z. 850: III. Allegro with the delightful Maurice André on trumpet joining The Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields (ASMF) under by Neville Marriner in 1964. From the many individual recordings, one thing is clear that André's music has in common: his undiminished refinement. First in the line of masterful performances are the baroque pieces played in the company of the ASMF and Marriner. Incidentally, the so-called The Trumpet Voluntary is not by Purcell, but by Jeremiah Clarke, who titled it The March of the Prince of Denmark

Purcell, England's Orpheus Britannicus, is one of my favorite composers.

He died in his 30s, like Mozart and Schubert did later on. What a pity! 😢

In my university choral society we performed his Fairy Queen.
